The Dignity Commode is a self-contained, mobile bidet commode, designed to help users to toilet independently without the need for assistance from others. It should provide a tremendous impact on the quality of care provided for people who have suffered a stroke or those with incontinence who cherish their independence and dignity at home.

A safe, convenient and hygienic solution to a standard commode chair with a bucket, the Dignity offers the additional wash and dry feature of a bidet for improved and private personal hygiene without the expense of installing a shower-toilet.

Incredibly simple to use, the built-in water reservoir is removed from the side of the commode and simply filled from the tap. Waste is collected in the potty that is supplied to make for easy disposal.

A simple control panel operates the drying and cleaning programme so the user is in complete control of the Dignity Commode.

The Dignity Commode was invented by Andy Speechley after seeing his best friend in difficulty. The design was refined with the help of the clinical engineering team at Sheffield NHS Foundation Trust and Devices for Dignity, part of NHS National Institute for Health Research.

It has received praise from the UK Government's Health Secretary, the UK's Chief Medical Officer, and the NHS Chief Executive. The final design and manufacture has been by Gordon Ellis & Co, leading UK manufacturer of commodes, raised toilet seats and bathroom safety equipment for older and disabled people.

The Dignity Commode is a self-contained portable bidet toilet that will wash and dry the user's bottom without the necessity of a carer.

The commode can be in use within minutes of being delivered and at the press of a button on the electronic detachable control panel, a controlled spray of warm water will clean the user.

The water is warmed in the bidet unit to a comfortable and comforting temperature. This is thermostatically controlled, avoiding any shock or alarm to the user from water which is too hot or too cold. The toilet seat is also pre-heated for comfort.

The water spray nozzle undergoes a self-clean regime before and after every use to maintain the highest hygiene standard. The nozzle can be removed for cleaning if required.

After the spray programme, the unit automatically switches to blowing warm air. The air dryer removes the risk of abrasion or soreness from wiping or rubbing, as it dries without contact.

The cleaning and drying programme is pre-set at suitable timings for the user, or it can be overridden if required.

The Dignity Commode has been designed with attention to detail. There is a gentle blue light under the toilet seat to enable it to be used in the dark, without disturbing others.

The seat height is also adjustable, without the need for any tools, to suit the user.
